Welcome Letter

Welcome to Woodside Elementary School!

Woodside is a Young Kinders through fifth grade elementary school located at 2591 North Division Avenue in Park Township. It is one of nine elementary buildings in the West Ottawa Public School District. At Woodside, the educational team sets high expectations for our students. Together, the entire staff and parent community works together to support each student in meeting these expectations. Please come visit and observe firsthand the warm, caring, academically challenging, and child-centered school that has been created through a partnership among faculty, staff, parents, students and community members.

We believe in our Woodside PRIDE where Positive Relationships Inspire our Drive to Excellence! Every student is made to feel special, and at Woodside we recognize that each one has a talent and/or a gift to share with all of us. We have created a school community where each and every day each child’s individuality and needs are considered when our instructional practices and enhanced programs are implemented. From interacting with pen pals in Florida, Sweden, Denmark or England, raising funds with the Holland Rotary Club for the disaster response charity ShelterBox, to hosting international student teachers from Hope College in Liverpool, Woodside students are connected to and interact with a truly global learning community.

As members of a global community, students at Woodside use technology to learn about and interact with people from around the world. Whether video chatting with a school for the deaf in Jamaica, virtually exploring the terrain of Antarctica, or exploring a typical day in the life of a student halfway around the world, technology helps Woodside students interact beyond the walls of the classroom.

To meet the needs of our high achievers in the language arts, Woodside offers the EXCEL program in grades 1-5, which is a project-based opportunity for talented students to explore the content area in unique and in-depth ways.

Woodside is on the cutting edge of technology. In addition to building 21st century skills in a weekly technology class, we are proud to enhance the curriculum through the use of two modern computer labs, three computer stations in every classroom, and two class sets of iPads. Students use technology to receive individualized practice, to access information on-demand, and to create pieces of writing, tutorials, and other products to share with the world.

Woodside is a diverse school where students, staff and families work together to learn about and from each other. We honor achievement, as shared with families during monthly Showcase Assemblies and the annual Celebration of Learning.
