Junior Class Information

Your Junior year is very important. You will be taking the ACT and SAT exams for college entrance. Your grades through your junior year will be sent with your college applications.

Individual Junior Planning Meeting

Your counselor has many resources and tools to assist you, even if you are unsure about your future goals. It is important to set up your Junior Planning Meeting with your counselor in the spring of your Junior year to discuss your future career and educational options. Parents are encouraged to join you for this meeting as well. CLICK HERE FOR THE JUNIOR MEETING PRESENTATION.

You and your counselor will discuss and identify career opportunities of interest to you and what educational requirements are needed . Your counselor will also review the necessary steps you will need to take to apply for continuing education beyond high school.

College Planning Workshop February 11, 2013

All juniors and their parents are asked to attend the College Planning Workshop in February.

Counselors present parents and students with an overview and instruction on:

  • Career research and identification tools
  • Timelines and hints for ACT/SAT testing
  • The range of options available to students following graduation
  • Doing research on post-secondary educational options
  • Applying to post-secondary institutions
  • Important financial aid dates and forms
  • How to search for scholarships

PSAT test in October of each year

All juniors are encouraged to sign up to take the PSAT, Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test on the designated Saturday in October of each year. The test is given at WOHS north building.

The PSAT is a practice for the SAT, a college entrance test for juniors and seniors.

Results from the PSAT in October are the only way juniors can potentially qualify as National Merit semi-finalists and enter the National Merit Scholarship competition. You can find more information on the PSAT test at the College Board website.

Plan to attend the Ottawa County College Night at Hope College in the fall of each year.
