Welcome to Sheldon Woods Elementary School!

Nestled along the shore of Lake Michigan and the northern edge of the West Ottawa Public School District, Sheldon Woods is a small, family-oriented school in an idyllic location for learning with nature trails, a sledding hill, and a paved running track. Sheldon Woods offers an outstanding choice in education for families along the lakeshore. Staff encourage students to think deeply and take action in their own lives. Through the process of inquiry and engaging activities, students ask questions and develop into responsible and compassionate citizens who care for both their local and global community.

At Sheldon Woods, we strive to make everything we do in our classrooms and our community connect. Our passion for learning extends to every member of our community from students, to staff, to parents. With the strong support of our staff, families, and PTO, our children come to school where a lifelong love of learning is fostered and where children learn they can make a difference.

While we are a community school, we also welcome many other students from throughout our district and surrounding communities. We serve approximately 115 students from kindergarten through fifth grade and received a “green” status in reading, math, science, and social studies on the Michigan School Accountability Score Card for 2012-2013 . Our highly-qualified and dedicated staff provides instruction in reading, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, visual arts, technology, performing arts, and foreign language. Additional student support includes media-enriched classrooms, reading and math assistance, speech and language services, English language development, and special education.

The West Ottawa Elementary teachers and staff at Sheldon Woods are pleased to have you join us in the exciting endeavor of educating your children! We look forward to working with you and your child(ren) in this exciting educational partnership. Parents and educators want to see children succeed in a safe and supportive learning environment.
