Kindergarten Programs

West Ottawa Public Schools offers both Prekindergarten and Kindergarten programs for children who will be five years old on or before October 1, 2014. Waiver forms are available for children turning 5 between October 1 and December 1.

Young Kinders is a full-day every day program with locations at three of our nine elementary schools: Lakewood, Pine Creek and Woodside. A half-day section may be offered based on the level of interest.

Kindergarten is a full-day every day program offered at each of our nine elementary schools.

All children are screened prior to placement. Screening takes place during the months of May and June. You will be contacted by the school to set up an appointment for the screening.

Student Enrollment

Welcome to West Ottawa Public Schools. We are so pleased to have you and your child join our school family. Our highly qualified staff is dedicated to ensuring a safe and secure environment, honoring diversity, and delivering quality and challenging programs for your child. Most of all, our staff has a heart for your child, and we are dedicated to meeting his/her needs as an individual learner.

2013-2014 Enrollment: Please visit the school building of your attendance area to enroll your child for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year. All high school students should enroll at the North Building located at 3685 Butternut Drive with a completed pdficon_small high school enrollment packet.

2014-2015 Pre-enrollment online: In order to make the enrollment process easier for you, we recommend you complete the pre-enrollment packet online at

Parents must complete the enrollment process in person. You will need to submit the following:

  • Certified copy of your child’s birth certificate. An Identify Affidavit is available if you are unable to provide us with a copy of your child’s birth certificate.
  • Current record of all immunizations from your healthcare provider.
  • Two proofs of residency.


Enrollment Locations

Elementary and Middle School Students: During the school year, your child can be enrolled at the school of your attendance area. If you are uncertain of your attendance area, please call (616)738-5700. During the summer, students must be enrolled at the administration building (1138 136th Avenue).

High School Students: Nine-twelfth grade students are always enrolled at the West Ottawa High School North Building (3685 Butternut Drive).


Schools of Choice

Internal Schools of Choice

Parents of resident students may request that their child attend a school outside their attendance area by completing an Internal Schools of Choice Application form.

  • Internal Schools of Choice requests will be honored based on space and availability in the school requested.
  • Once approved, the Internal Schools of Choice student will be grandfathered into the requested school. The Schools of Choice student’s place in their assigned attendance area is now vacant and will be filled by other requests. If the Schools of Choice student requests to return to their assigned attendance area, placement will be based upon space and availability.
  • Transportation for Schools of Choice children is the parents’ responsibility.

External Schools of Choice

Through the OAISD Schools of Choice Program, non-resident students may apply to attend West Ottawa Public Schools by completing a pdficon_small Non-Resident Enrollment Application.
